Picnic has won a brand new award entitled "Honorary Retailer of the Year". Picnic was selected for this audience award by readers of Internet World Business. From ten online retailers nominated by a jury, Picnic was the online retailer who impressed them the most in 2018.
The Dutch online grocery retailer must be doing something right. 2,700 readers voted for Picnic as the "Honorary Retailer of the Year" at the Internet World Expo in Munich. It could be called the people's choice award for European online retail.
Four Not Five
After 8 years of awarding top-notch e-commerce, another new thing this year in Munich was the fact that the jury awarded the Shop Award in four instead of five categories. Previously, there were separate awards for the "Best Online Pure Player" and "Best Multi-channel Retailer". These two awards have now been put together into one – the "Best Online Retailer" award. Ecommercenews and Internetworld found out that: “After all, the customer no longer differentiates between different sales channels, but buys wherever the shopping experience is the easiest and most satisfying.”
The Year(s) Of Amazon
This time, the jury had one big question on their minds: "Can retailers stand out with their shop in an 'Amazoned' world?" Can retailers get their customers buying with better product ranges, presentation, services or customer-first strategies? As Amazon continually takes the lion's share of the online retail cake, recognising non-Amazon-aligned retailers is important to the industry.
